SEC week 8 predictions

NEW: Discuss this topic in the Google+ community for SEC fans.

Well, I finished 6-1 last weekend (42-10 overall), and Kevin finished 6-1 (41-11 overall).

On to week eight we go:

#6 LSU at #18 Texas A&M

Jon: In tough road matchups, I really look for the team that has the best running game and defense to win on the road. I think LSU has both. Likewise, Johnny Manziel hasn’t seen a defense this good since Florida. The running game will be minimal for the Aggies, and the passing windows will be just a little bit tighter. LSU 28, Texas A&M 26

Kevin: I have LSU rolling in this game. I think Florida woke up LSU a few weeks ago, and Les Miles has his team back to physical defense, running the ball, and Mettenberger not being asked to do much. Expect Jeremy Hill to get the rock a bunch along with Spencer Ware. TAMU hasn’t played a defensive front like this yet. I think this game looks like 2011 LSU when they pull ahead big in the second half via the ground game. LSU 37, Texas A&M 17

Auburn at Vanderbilt

Jon: I’m not convinced that Auburn will win an SEC game all season, and the most wins the Tigers may have is three total. Vanderbilt takes care of business at home for their second SEC win. Vanderbilt 24, Auburn 18

Kevin: I think Vanderbilt can actually move the ball with Rodgers, Stacy and some of their WRs. I think Vanderbitl pulls out a close win, but doesn’t cover the spread. Vanderbilt 23, Auburn 20

#7 South Carolina at #2 Florida

Jon: Since Marcus Lattimore is going to be hindered with an ailing hip injury, I think Florida gets it done. Several Gamecocks have the flu and are fighting nagging injuries. Florida is getting healthy at the right time. Gators win a physical football game. Florida 17, South Carolina 16

Kevin: I’ve been going back and forth on this all week. The Florida offensive line getting healthy is huge. Florida is going to run the ball and then run the ball again. LSU showed us last week how to run on this South Carolina team and at times they ran right at Clowney. This could be a slug fest and might be determined by one big breakaway play like a Driskel or Shaw long run. I’m going to go by the home team on this game. The home team has been winning these tough SEC games in 2012 so far (SC/UGA, SC/LSU, FLA/LSU) so let’s go with it. Florida 14, South Carolina 13

#11 Georgia at Kentucky

Jon: This one is going to get ugly for Kentucky. Georgia will take out their anguish from the South Carolina game. Georgia 49, Kentucky 10

Kevin: Georgia looks great against average teams. Big numbers for the Dawgs. Georgia 45, Kentucky 7

Middle Tennessee at #12 Mississippi State

Jon: This is the last sleep-walk victory for the Bulldogs. It gets real next week against Alabama. Miss State 34, MTSU 17

Kevin: Mississippi State gets one more tune up before they get hit hard by their schedule. Miss State 38, MTSU 14

#1 Alabama at Tennessee

Jon: If Tennessee wants to keep this ball game close, they are going to have to avoid turning the football over. Tennessee has six turnovers in their three SEC losses. Alabama is in another league, playing only against themselves. Alabama 31, Tennessee 22

Kevin: You just can’t beat a team without a strong defense and ground game. Alabama will grind down the Vols’ team and pull ahead easily. Alabama 41, Tennessee 21

For UF and USC, can I hope for the game to end with both of them losing? Is that possible? No? Well, honestly, South Carolina has struggled away from home (Vandy, UK, LSU). Florida looks good, not #2 in the SEC good or #2 in the nation good, but good. I have South Carolina doing one of two things:
    1. being so demoralized after losing to LSU, the season collapses
    2. being so motivated after the lose to LSU, they bring Florida back to life and win the SEC East

    • I’m good with most of these, I especially agree that Bama will likely curb stomp UT. I think, however, that UK will at least score a field goal against UGA (but not much more…).

    Lets GO COCKS! BELIEVE!

  3. I THINK; all you guys are just spouting B.S. to stir the pot by saying LSWHO will beat BAMA. The ONLY team that can beat BAMA, is BAMA. Not gonna happen. At the start of the year I didn’t think we could repeat after the players we lost to the NFL. The A Day game opened my eyes and I started thinking, we’re better than I thought. T.J. Yeldon REALLY impressed me. Then after the season started I started to think well, maybe. I think McCarron is possibly the best QB in the country, no flash, just wins football games. Lacy and Yeldon are great running backs and our O line is unbeatable. Plus, best defense in the country! WOW. C’mon LSWHO, then Anyone else. Would love to play Oregon in the Big Game and remind them, with their flashy uniforms, what it’s like to play the best team in the SEC, and in the Country.
