Alabama sophomore cornerback Geno Smith was arrested for DUI and booked by the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Sunday morning. Smith’s bond was set at $1,000.
Smith became a significant contributor last year as a true freshman in Bama’s coveted Nickelback position. He made nine tackles, two pass breakups and two passes defended in a strong freshman campaign.
Alabama’s offseason has been quiet except for the four arrested in February for second-degree robbery and credit card fraud. All four were dismissed from the team.
Smith was expected to contend for the starting cornerback job vacated by Dee Milliner.
Updated: Saban responded to Smith’s arrest:
“This is obviously not the kind of behavior we expect from our players,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a university statement. “I don’t have all of the details at this point and will handle it appropriately once I’ve had a chance to review the information.”
