Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron has impressed the Cincinnati Bengals enough to remain on the roster, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

The Bengals cut journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson in lieu of keeping McCarron as Andy Dalton’s backup.

The former fifth-round draft pick finished 11 of 15 for 97 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. McCarron’s been bothered by shoulder problems, but he insists they aren’t an issue.
