The emergence of freshman QB Jalen Hurts has led to a mass exodus of quarterbacks from Alabama’s roster.

It’s been announced that both David Cornwell and Cooper Bateman will leave Tuscaloosa in search of greener pastures. Fortunately for the Crimson Tide, Bateman will stick around for the College Football Playoffs.

Two walk-ons sit behind Hurts and Bateman on the depth chart. Once a position of strength, it’s now an area Nick Saban will address via recruiting.

LT Cam Robinson and DL Jonathan Allen both spoke to the media over the quarterbacks’ decisions. Robinson was very complimentary of both Bateman and Cornwell:

“I’m pretty sure they made the best decision for them. I never have anything bad to say about them. All of those guys are my brothers. We worked hard together every day so I don’t have anything bad to say about them. I hope it works out for them. The dynamic doesn’t change whether we have one quarterback on the sideline or six quarterbacks on the sideline. My job is to protect Jalen.”

Allen offered some perspective to the moves — and firmly understood that they were galvanized in large part due to Hurts:

“You have to do what’s best for you at the end of the day. I’m not surprised. I understand they’re juniors and we have a freshman playing and they don’t feel like they’re going to have the opportunity that they want so they have to do what’s best for them. I wish them the best of luck. I have no hard feelings toward them. It’s about what they have to do for their family.”
