Can working with Tom Brady and the Mannings help in the Alabama quarterback competition? Cooper Bateman hopes so.

Bateman is set to participate in TB12, Brady’s program, as well the Manning Passing Academy with Archie, Eli and Peyton Manning, according to a story originally reported by BamaOnLine.com.

Brady’s TB12 is less focused on mechanics, and more focused on performance and stamina according to the program website. The Manning Passing Academy, founded in 1996, is an annual camp in which NFL and college quarterbacks serve as camp counselors, working with high school quarterbacks, receivers, tight ends and running backs.

Anything Bateman picks up by being around Brady and the Mannings could help the redshirt junior signal-caller back in Tuscaloosa.

“Honestly, he wants to do everything he absolutely can to win it all. He wants his own national championship ring,” Bateman’s high school offensive coordinator Scott Cate told BamaOnLine. “That’s been a goal of his from the very beginning. He wants to see if he can lead a team to a national championship. Now, is that this year, next year? Who knows. It may not happen. We try not to talk about things that could happen in the future.”

Bateman, of course, will get a national championship ring as a member of the 2015 team. Cate’s quote implies Bateman wants to be known for something other being the starter for the Crimson Tide’s lone loss in the ’15 campaign – an undesirable association with future Alabama trivia.

Nick Saban has yet to name his QB1 for the ’16 season. Some of the coach’s comments indicate Bateman is the leader of the pack, but Blake Barnett appears to be making a strong push for the starting job. Barnett, has also been working with a quarterback guru in the offseason, although not quite on the level of multiple Super Bowl winners.
