With the Crimson Tide coming off a bye week, they’ve had an extra week to prepare for the fight they’re in for on Saturday. Mississippi has one of the best defenses in the country; take a look at some of the scary numbers the Rebels have posted.

  • 8.5. Alabama is looking like they might have their best offense under Nick Saban, averaging 42 points per game with new coordinator Lane Kiffin. Ole Miss might have the best defense in the conference, though, and they’re holding opponents to 8.5 points per game. Something will have to give on Saturday.
  • 74.2. Blake Sims has been lights out for the Tide so far, posting a 190.77 QB Rating. The Rebels won’t be happy with their performance if Sims gets anywhere close to that, as they’re limiting opposing quarterbacks to a 74.2 passer rating through four games.
  • 2. Despite Alabama’ reputation as a running team, they’re airing it out with the best of them this season. They rank No. 4 in the SEC in passing plays of both 15-plus and 25-plus yards, mainly thanks to the sheer brilliance of Amari Cooper. Ole Miss has only given up two passing plays of 25 or more yards, best in the SEC, and 12 of 15 or more yards, which ranks second.
  • 11. While they’re not exactly dominating turnover margin, the Rebels have still forced 11 turnovers on the season, including 9 interceptions. The good news here for the Tide is that Ole Miss has only recovered 2 fumbles on the season, while Alabama has given away 5 fumbles. If Sims can avoid picks, Alabama should be able to win the turnover battle.
