Alabama assistant Mario Cristobal is at the top of the University of Miami’s wishlist to become the Hurricanes’ next head coach, sources have told Football Scoop.

Cristobal handles offensive line coaching duties for the Crimson Tide and is one of Nick Saban’s top recruiters. The Miami native has reached into South Florida and signed several major prospects since joining Alabama’s staff in 2013.

Cristobal previously served as head coach at Florida International for six seasons after working as an assistant for several years with Rutgers and Miami. During his playing days in Coral Gables, Cristobal helped the Hurricanes win two national titles as a dominant offensive tackle from 1989-92.

In a recent news story from 247Sports, several high school coaches in the Miami area revealed strong support for Cristobal.
