The rollercoaster of emotions for Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin appears to be over.

The FAU Owls have hired Kiffin as its next head coach, per ESPN:

According to FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman, FAU has signed Kiffin to a five-year deal.

Kiffin, of course, was linked to the Houston head coaching job, and USA Today even reported it was essentially a done deal. The Cougars pulled a fast one and hired its offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, by-passing Alabama’s offensive coordinator. Kiffin had also been linked to the LSU offensive coordinator job and the South Florida head coaching job.

One thing is for certain: Kiffin was getting out of Tuscaloosa one way or another. Whether that was Kiffin’s decision or Saban’s, the marriage was over.

Now, it’s time for Kiffin to go out and prove he can be a head coach off the field. It could be a matter of time before he lands another Power 5 job, too, assuming things at FAU go as planned.
