After not being listed on the initial watch list, University of Alabama senior Blake Sims was named a semifinalist for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s the first national award that Sims is up for this season.

After winning the starting competition with transfer Jacob Coker, Sims is third in the nation in passing efficiency (172.7) and 19th in completion percentage (.655). He’s totaled 20 total touchdowns, 15 passing, compared to just three interceptions, to go with 2,034 yards passing and 250 yards rushing.

Alabama has never had a player with the Davey O’Brien. The 16 semifinalists:
