The Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1) travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a non-conference clash of two teams looking to make early season statements. Let’s look inside some of the early season numbers for Arkansas.

THE GOOD

11.6: Average yards gained by Arkansas when they run the ball on first down. Their 11.6 average is more than two yards higher than any other team that’s played at least two games this season.

7: Number of sacks by Arkansas’ defense. The seven sacks are tied with LSU for the most in the SEC

4: forced fumbles by Arkansas. Thanks to the great tackling of linebackers Brooks Ellis and Martrell Spaight as well as the constant pressure by the defensive line, the Hogs have been very disruptive and aggressive when it comes to forcing turnovers this season. Four different players have forced fumbles so far.

THE BAD

26:31: Average total time of possession for Arkansas, which ranks second to last in the SEC. Granted, a number of their scoring drives against Nicholls State were only one play, but they’ll need to focus more on controlling the time of possession in the future. In their upcoming game against Texas Tech, limiting the amount of time the Red Raiders’ high-powered offense can be on the field will great increase Arkansas’ chances of coming out of Lubbock with a victory.

182: Passing yards averaged per game. It’s still early in the season, but Brandon Allen will be the X-factor for the success of Arkansas’ offense. With many defenses focused on the Hogs’ run game, the chances will be there for Allen to make some plays. He’ll just need to take advantage of them.

700: Days it has been since Arkansas has beaten a Power 5 conference team (at time of kickoff on Saturday). Their last Power 5 victory came against the Kentucky Wildcats on Oct. 13, 2012 when the Hogs defeated UK 49-7.
