Here are some quick thoughts from Arkansas’ 17-0 win over LSU:

What it means: The Razorbacks’ demoralizing 17-game losing streak in the SEC is over. Bret Bielema, at the tail end of his second season in Fayetteville, now has a win under his belt and will try and continue the turnaround at a program that’s been on the cusp against several Top 10 teams. Arkansas (5-5) is a win away from bowl eligibility with two games remaining. The Razorbacks last appeared in a bowl game during the 2011 season.

What I liked: Arkansas’ FBS-high 11th touchdown drive spanning more than five minutes this season gave the Razorbacks a 10-point lead midway through the second quarter, a statement possession against a team that ripped out the Razorbacks’ hearts last season in Baton Rouge. Defensively, a front four led by Trey Flowers harassed quarterback Anthony Jennings from the pocket and crushed LSU’s running game.

Who’s the men: Every player associated with the Razorbacks’ defense from starters to second-teamers. Martrell Spaight and Darius Philon’s forced fumble, recovery with eight minutes to play in the fourth quarter was a heads up play and the only turnover of the game, crippling LSU’s last-gasp. The takeaway was the culmination of the Razorbacks’ most complete SEC defensive performance of the season, their first shutout since 2006 and signifies the ultimate confidence booster heading into the final two weeks.

Key play: Alex Collins bounced off a defender and kept his balance on a 5-yard touchdown run on 3rd-and-1 in the fourth quarter that capped a 12-play, 55-yard drive. Taking more than six minutes off the clock, it was the knockout blow to the Tigers, who struggled offensively throughout.

What’s next: Arkansas looks to record its second straight win over a ranked SEC West rival in Fayetteville next Saturday.
