No. 19 Auburn will square off with No. 18 Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.

The Tigers and Badgers have met three times, with the last meeting coming in 2006. The series is tied all-time 2-2-1.

Outback Bowl representatives were said to be high on Auburn earlier in the week, though the Tigers’ bowl destination comes as a bit of a surprise.

Auburn (8-4, 4-4 SEC) finished the season on a slide, losing three of its final four games.

Wisconsin boasts arguably the best player in all of college football in running back Melvin Gordon. The Badgers finished the 2014 campaign at 10-3, but got thrashed in the Big Ten championship game by No. 4 Ohio State, 59-0.

Wisconsin entered Saturday night’s conference championship game with the second-ranked defense in the nation, but was dominated all night by the Buckeyes. The Badgers face another stiff test in Auburn, which put up 44 points and nearly 700 yards of total offense on Alabama.

Kickoff between Auburn and Wisconsin is set for Noon on Jan. 1 in Tampa.
