Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn confirmed on Tuesday that the Tigers will be without two of its best pass rushers on Saturday afternoon in Tuscaloosa, reports AL.com.

Defensive end, and the team leader in sacks, DaVonte Lambert had underwent surgery on Tuesday and will miss the remainder of the season. Defensive tackle Jeff Whitaker, who has missed the last two games, will also miss the Iron Bowl.

Malzahn confirmed both injuries in his weekly news conference on Tuesday.

“DaVonte will not play,” Malzahn told reporters. “He had surgery today and will miss the rest of the season.”

Defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson said on Sunday that senior Gabe Wright likely would play snaps at both end and tackle, in order to keep Auburn’s defensive line rotation intact.

Defensive back Robenson Therezie will return to the lineup after sitting out the win over Samford.

On the flip side of the football, the Tigers will be at full strength. JUCO transfer Duke Williams will return after sitting out two games after suffering a leg injury in the loss to Texas A&M. Ricardo Louis, who sat out the win over Samford, will go on Saturday afternoon.

“We expect everyone else to play,” Malzahn said.
