Auburn defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson has been relieved of his duties a source told Football Scoop on Sunday:

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn declined comment on any personnel changes following Saturday’s Iron Bowl loss to Alabama after the Tigers gave up 539 yards and a rivalry-game record 55 points.

Johnson is in his second season as the leader of Auburn’s defense. Reports indicate Malzahn informed Johnson on the personnel change on Sunday.

Prior to last week’s win over Samford, the Tigers had given up at least 400 yards of total offense and 30 points in five consecutive games, a dubious program record. Johnson is under contract through 2017 with a $850,000 salary.

In addition, offensive analyst Bobby Bentley has resigned.
