Last week, Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn announced that rising sophomore Sean White will start at quarterback for the Auburn Tigers.

Backing up White will be Jeremy Johnson and John Franklin III. Franklin III — a JUCO transfer by way of Florida State — was expected to come in and vie for the starting job. While didn’t win the position, it’s still expected that the speedy signal-caller will play in some capacity.

Whilst appearing on The Paul Finebaum Show, oddsmaker Danny Sheridan spoke about what impact Franklin III could have had on the team, assuming he would’ve been named the starter:

“With Franklin starting — I thought he was going to be that good. And again, I said the same thing when Nick Marshall was the quarterback, and Cam Newton, because I was told how great those two athletes were at the quarterback position. Well, I thought Franklin would do it. But yes, 10 wins.”

Franklin III is still slated to feature at quarterback for right now, but there’s no question Auburn would like to utilize his sublime speed in some capacity. It wouldn’t be a shock to eventually see Franklin III get some extended time as the signal-caller — nor would it be surprising to have him get some run at another position.
