Fresh off being named college football’s biggest freak, Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates is already showing why.

It was only the second day of fall practice, and he’s made it very obvious that he hasn’t missed a step. The junior showed off his precise route-running and good hands while making two great catches on Saturday.

The best of the two — a one-handed, 25-yard reception from Nick Marshall — was caught on tape by Auburn Undercover’s Keith Niebuhr.

The junior was also photographed making a leaping grab along the sidelines.

Coates and junior college transfer D’haquille Williams highlight an Auburn receiving corps that has tremendous depth and explosive ability. Coates and Williams will be used as big play threats in Auburn’s offense, which wants to open up the air attack in 2014.

Maybe that’s why my colleague Murf Baldwin named Coates an absolute man-child.
