Florida kicker Eddy Pineiro was outstanding in the first game of his SEC career. The freshman went 3 of 3 on field goal attempts, with all three coming from beyond 40 yards.

Pineiro also happened to be wearing the number of one of the Gators’ all-time greats, Tim Tebow. However, Danny Wuerfell, one of Florida’s other Heisman-winning quarterbacks, said the kicker earned the right to share Tebow’s No. 15 after his stellar debut.

Pineiro signed with the Gators this offseason after spending the past two years at ASA College in Miami, where he played soccer. He ranked as the No. 1 kicker, No. 2 player from the state of Florida and No. 160 overall prospect for the 2016 JUCO transfer class.

The former soccer standout has limited experience, but gained notoriety for making a 60-yard field goal in a competition, nearly connecting on a 71-yard attempt that bounced off the crossbar an event-record 86-yard kickoff, according to KornblueKicking.com
