Jim McElwain, Randy Shannon and the Florida Gators received big news Sunday night.

Rising senior safety Marcell Harris has decided to return to school next season. The Florida football official account tweeted out Harris’ message to the Gator Nation.

Harris returning is big news for a secondary that’s losing safety Marcus Maye and cornerbacks Jalen “Teez” Tabor and Quincy Wilson.

Harris led the Gators’ defense with 72 total tackles, including four tackles for loss and one sack, and he also added two INTs on the season.

The Orlando, Florida, native played very well down the stretch for the Gators’ defense. To see the development Harris has showed the last two seasons has been impressive. He was plagued by injuries early in his career, but he’s really developed into a nice tackling safety.

No doubt another season will benefit Harris, and he’ll be ready for the NFL Draft in 2018.

Although the Gators’ defense is losing some elite talent in the secondary, Harris, Duke Dawson and Nick Washington will make sure there won’t be much drop off.
