Even in off years, the Florida Gators are an NFL factory.

Florida is projected to have two first round picks in this week’s NFL draft, defensive end Dante Fowler and offensive tackle D.J. Humphries, this coming off a 7-5 season that cost Gators coach Will Muschamp his job.

Sending talent to the next level is an annual tradition at Florida, as it has been for decades. The past 10 years have been no different, with 47 former Gators drafted into the NFL from 2005-14. That includes 11 first round picks, more than one per year.

The Gators’ two national championship teams both produced a ton of NFL talent. The 2006 team sent nine players to the follow spring’s NFL draft, including two first round picks. The 2008 championship team had its draft wealth spread out over two years: three picks in 2009, including first round pick Percy Harvin, and nine more in 2010, featuring first rounders Joe Haden, Maurkice Pouncey and Tim Tebow.

The talent obviously didn’t stop flowing from Gainesville when Urban Meyer left town. The 2013 draft saw another eight players drafted, two of them first round picks.

Outside of Fowler and Humphries, the Gators have several other draft prospects. Offensive linemen Max Garcia and Chaz Green are viewed as potential later-round picks, while running back Matt Jones is expected to go in the middle rounds.
