Five-star receiver Darnell Salomon has written Georgia coach Mark Richt a two-page apology letter for an incident that took place at a Bulldogs recruiting event last summer.

Salomon, on campus for the team’s “Dawg Night,” allegedly entered the Busbee Hall dorm room of two female students and stole an iPhone5, money and credit cards. Police issued a warrant for his arrest in July, and the case remains pending with a deposition set for June 18, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

The receiver’s high school coach publicly promised that Salomon would be cleared of wrongdoing, and Salomon returned to Athens, Ga., and posted bond after charges of first-degree felony burglary.

He discussed the matter with Rivals.com this weekend, calling it “a really dumb mistake.”

“Everyone makes mistakes, I learned, and will never do something like that again,” Salomon said, according to Rivals.com.

The website noted that Salomon’s letter to Richt accepted responsibility for showing bad character. Salomon also contends that he spoke to Richt on the phone and that the Georgia coaching staff, which had dropped him from their recruiting board according to the Athens Banner-Herald, promised him a clean slate.

The No. 4 receiver in the nation according to the 247Sports composite rankings for the ’16 class, plenty of SEC schools still are seeking Salomon, in addition to Oregon, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida State, Nebraska and others.

It remains unclear whether UGA indeed will continue to recruit Salomon. The Bulldogs have taken a strong stance on behavioral issues and recently pushed hard for the new rule preventing transfers from coming to the SEC with sexual crimes or domestic abuse on their record.

Hopefully Salomon has learned from his mistakes. The Rivals report depicts him as genuinely contrite. If he can move forward with his life and avoid stealing anything in the future, he deserves a chance to play college football somewhere.
