Freshman running back Nick Chubb is expected to miss this weekend’s game against Troy and possibly longer.

The Cedartown, Ga. native underwent surgery on his left thumb at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. The procedure was to insert surgical screws to repair a fracture he suffered in practice last week.

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chubb’s mother, Lavelle Chubb, said the operation was successful.

“He’s doing good, he’s just resting right now,” Chubb said.

As for how long her son would be sidelined, Ms. Chubb said that decision would be made moving forward.

“They said they would see how he’s doing (Tuesday) before they make that decision. Possibly this week, but they’re not really sure (how long he’ll be out).”

Georgia has not commented on Chubb’s status for this weekend.

He saw limited action against South Carolina on Saturday carrying the ball four times for 34 yards.
