Georgia’s wide receiving corps has a wide range of off-the-field interests.

Amateur filmmaker Chris Conley’s a Star Wars fanatic and now, Malcolm Mitchell has revealed his love of books.

On the mend with a knee injury, Mitchell’s free time recently included a trip to a Georgia-based Barnes & Nobles where a chance encounter at the bestseller rack with Kathy Rackley, an avid reader 22 years older, led to an exclusive invite into her middle-aged, all-female book club.

“Growing up as a kid, I didn’t read at all because I was always outside playing sports,” Mitchell said. “I developed a love for reading over time and found it was very important to read. Those simple skills that reading gives you is very important in everyday life.”

The women aren’t football fans and weren’t aware of the Georgia wideout’s 85 career catches, 1,237 yards and eight touchdowns.

“All the ladies in the club are great people and good friends, so the relationships are great and I cherish them,” Mitchell said in a recent interview with NBC 11Alive.
