HOOVER, Ala. — Kentucky defensive back A.J. Stamps says the Wildcats aren’t looking back on last season’s second-half slide that followed an impressive 5-1 start.

“When we look back, we would do (some) things differently, but we don’t like to talk about the past … it’s in the past,” Stamps said Wednesday at SEC Media Days. “We’ re just focused on the process we have to take to get ready for this season.”

Six straight losses snuffed out Kentucky’s shot at bowl season and placed the Wildcats near the bottom of the SEC standings. Erasing those remnants has been the primary focus since, turning around a program that hasn’t won a postseason game since the 2008 campaign.

“We addressed that at the end of last year and put that behind us,” said senior defensive tackle Melvin Lewis.

Stamps added: “We don’t dwell on it. We kind of use it as motivation to kind of pick us up and uplift us to let us know we can compete with other teams.”

Kentucky opens against Louisiana-Lafayette before the SEC slate starts at South Carolina in Week 2.
