The Kentucky Wildcats (5-1) travel to Baton Rogue, LA., to face LSU (5-2) on Saturday. The Wildcats look to extend their three-game winning streak and capture a signature road win against a tough SEC West opponent. The Tigers are coming off a 30-27 thriller at Florida and look to extend their first winning streak since losing to Mississippi State on Sept. 20.

Freshman phenom Leonard Fournette leads LSU with 504 rushing yards and six touchdowns on 93 carries. Fournette is averaging 72 yards per game and 5.4 per carry. The former No. 1 prospect for the 2014 recruiting class entered his first collegiate season with huge expectations and has shown steady progress through the season to validate the high praise.

Fournette will face an improved Kentucky defense that has plenty of talent in its front seven. The Wildcats have held opposing rushing attacks to 152 yards and rank No. 63 overall in rushing defense. Kentucky has totaled 37 tackles for loss and is averaging six per game this season.

Senior defensive end Alvin “Bud” Dupree is a standout edge rusher. Dupree has excelled at both linebacker and defensive end, totaling 4.5 tackles for loss and a team-best three sacks. Teammates Josh Forrest and Jason Hatcher have also brought pressure to opposing backfields, tying for a team-high 5.5 tackles for loss.

Saturday’s matchup may be the biggest test for Kentucky thus far. With two SEC wins, the Wildcats have already surpassed their total from the previous season. A victory against LSU in Death Valley would be a signature one for second-year coach Mark Stoops and a program looking to make a statement.

The matchup will be difficult facing the talented, improving freshman back, as well as several other skill players in the Tigers’ offense. However, the Wildcats have a talented defense hungry to ask the question “why not Kentucky?” once again in celebration of a major victory.
