Every Wednesday evening after practice, LSU coach Les Miles speaks with the media. This week, he gave a few updates on the state of his team following their 34-29 loss to Mississippi State last Saturday. Some of the tidbits he revealed:

  • Freshman defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, who has been playing plenty of snaps in the last few weeks, will start in place of injured starter Quentin Thomas. Rotating in with Godchaux and starter Christian LaCouture will be Lewis Neal, a 255-pound defensive end who will be moving inside.
  • On the topic of defensive tackles, Miles said that one of his three redshirt freshman DTs — Marquedius Bain, Frank Herron and Greg Gilmore — is injured. In typical Miles fashion, he did not specify to reporters which of the three is hurt.
  • Middle linebacker Kendell Beckwith, who played very well in a reserve role against the Bulldogs, will get more reps against New Mexico State. D.J. Welter will still be the starter, though.
