The contracts for new LSU defensive coordinator Kevin Steele and defensive line coach Ed Orgeron were made official Friday when the LSU Board of Trustees met and approved the deals.

Steele, who last served as Alabama’s linebackers coach, will earn $1 million annually for the next two years as the replacement to John Chavis, who left LSU for Texas A&M this winter. Orgeron, the former Ole Miss head coach and USC interim coach, will earn $450,000 per year for the next two years as the replacement to Brick Haley.

The story was first reported by The Advocate.

The board also okayed new contracts for four returning assistant coaches on the Tigers staff. Running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Frank Wilson will earn a $10,000 raise per year in earning $660,000 per year for the next three years. Wilson was already the highest-paid recruiting coordinator in the nation before earning his raise this offseason.

Defensive backs coach Corey Raymond will also earn a $10,000 raise and will rake in $310,000 per year for the next two years.

Receivers coach Adam Henry will earn $375,000 per year for the next two years, representing a $55,000 raise from his previous deal, and tight ends coach Steve Ensminger will earn $300,000 per year for the next two years.

Blake Chatelain told The Advocate he thinks the staff LSU now has in place is capable of building the foundation to a strong program, especially after hiring recruiting aces Steele and Orgeron and retaining Wilson.

“We probably have the best recruiting staff in the country,” Chatelain said.
