LSU sophomore defensive lineman Mickey Johnson, a former four-star prospect out of Covington, La., informed The Times-Picayune on Saturday he intends on transferring before the start of next season.

Johnson said he has received assistant coach Brick Haley’s blessing but will have to wait until he graduates in August. The Tigers have not yet granted his release.

As a graduate transfer, Johnson will be eligible to play immediately and will have two seasons remaining. He is reportedly looking at South Florida and Kansas State as potential landing spots and says he will likely not participate in spring practice in Baton Rouge.

One of ESPN’s players to watch this season, Johnson struggled to find playing time, managing just three tackles in two games.
