LSU tight end Dillon Gordon has announced that he’s entering the NFL Draft less than a week before it begins.

That’s because Gordon announced on his Twitter feed on Friday that the NCAA did not grant him a fifth year of eligibility. LSU asked the governing body on his behalf to grant him a medical redshirt so he could play the 2016 season.

From 2013-14, Gordon started 25 games for the Tigers. He then started the first two games of the 2015 season before going down with an Achilles injury. He came back to start the Oct. 17 game against Florida, but he hurt the Achilles again and was sidelined for the rest of the year.

Gordon was mainly used as a blocking tight end as he only recorded one catch in 2015, and that came in that contest last season against the Gators for an 8-yard gain.

Gordon was hospitalized not long after the end of last season when an unknown man stabbed him three times in the chest, abdomen and leg during a fight at Reggie’s bar near LSU’s campus. The injuries were non-life threatening.

Coach Les Miles indicated that Gordon was healthy enough to practice with the Tigers, but he didn’t due to the NCAA not clearing him
