Ed Orgeron can already check off one box for his long-term plan at LSU.

According to ESPN, the Tigers have signed defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to a new three-year deal. The terms of the, however, are still unknown.

Sooner after the news broke, The Advocate reported Aranda will also receive the title of associate head coach.

Aranda, regarded as one of the best coordinator hires of last year, has delivered during his first season in Baton Rouge. LSU wrapped up the regular season with the nation’s No. 7 scoring defense while surrendering more than 21 points only once, all while transitioning to Aranda’s multiple defense.

He was announced as a nominee for the Broyles Award, presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Orgeron, who had his interim tag removed Saturday, reportedly emphasized retaining Aranda during a crucial meeting with the Tigers’ coaching search committee.
