Mississippi State gets the chance to rebound from its loss to Alabama when they face off against Vanderbilt in Week 13. It’s about as favorable of a game as the Bulldogs could get, going against the conference’s only winless team. While the Commodores (3-7, 0-6) don’t have much in the way of firepower, they do have one of the most talented young running backs in the SEC in Ralph Webb.

In his freshman year, Webb has already broken Vanderbilt’s freshman rushing record with 838 yards on the season. While he hasn’t had any monster games, he’s been the Commdores’ workhorse, averaging 18.5 carries per game. His total yardage makes up 28 percent of the team’s total, the highest such percentage on the team.

As good as Webb has been for the Commodores, he’s a one-dimensional back, with only 8 catches for 27 yards on the season. That will make things easy on Mississippi State linebackers, with Benardrick McKinney and Beniquez Brown leading the charge.

Mississippi State has been brutal on ball carriers all season, yielding just 3.6 yards per carry. They were strong in the loss to Alabama, limiting the Crimson Tide to 3.9 yards a pop. When you add in a talented Mississippi State defensive line and a shaky offensive front for Vanderbilt, you have the makings of another shutdown game against the run.
