Mississippi State police arrested freshman WR John Michael Hankerson Wednesday for simple assault, which does not involve physical contact with the victim, and trespassing, according to Michael Bonner of The Clarion-Ledger.

The former three-star prospect from South Bend, Ind. signed with MSU as part of its 2016 class. Hankerson has not played so far in his first year with the Bulldogs.

Thursday, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen issued the following statement regarding his receiver’s arrest:

“We are aware of the incident involving John Michael Hankerson. We will continue to gather more information. He has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”
