Could Dan Mullen be headed to the NFL?

MMQB.com’s Peter King discussed possible candidates to replace fired coach Jeff Fisher with the Los Angeles Rams, mentioning the Mississippi State head man as someone who could fit the bill.

In his column, which highlights a cluster of names to watch, King writes that Mullen “is popular in the eyes of some in the NFL for his development of Dak Prescott and is well-liked by NFL people who pass through Starkville.”

Earlier this summer, Prescott told reporters that Mullen literally runs an NFL offense at MSU.

“The offense we ran at Mississippi State was nothing short of an NFL offense,” Prescott said. “The only thing that was different is that we didn’t go under center. I swear to you, in (pre-draft) visits, every play they showed me, I could name it. We just called it something different. At another team I visited, they ran the exact same stuff we ran.

“Knowledge-wise, I think I’m the smartest quarterback that came in this class. I would love to go on the board and go head to head with anybody else. That’s how I feel. That’s how confident I am.”

Prescott has taken the NFL by storm as a rookie this season, leading the Dallas Cowboys to an 11-2 record with the third-best quarterback rating (102.7) in the league.

If Mullen happens to receive a phone call from the LA front office, it would not come to any surprise.
