Mississippi State senior defensive lineman Preston Smith did a little bit of everything during the Bulldogs’ 49-0 win over Southern Miss on Saturday.

For his efforts, Smith has earned SDS’ Week 1 Blue-Collar Player of the Week.

In addition to his two tackles, the 6-foot-6, 270-pounder jumped through a gap in the third quarter and blocked Corey Acosta’s 30-yard field goal attempt which was picked up in stride by Jay Hughes on a second bounce for a 68-yard touchdown.

Smith added an athletic interception earlier in the game during the Golden Eagles’ first possession when he tipped a pass from Nick Mullens into the air and came down with it on the deflection.
