Missouri released its depth chart for Saturday’s game at Toledo this morning.

There are no major changes, but there are a few things to note.

  • Backup running back Morgan Steward (hip) still is listed as doubtful. Steward strained his right hip Aug. 8 during a full-pads practice, but after an MRI, the team declared he’d be ready within a few days. But his hip hasn’t responded well, and all signs point to him missing Saturday’s game at Toledo. Marcus Murphy will continue to get some carries, but that means Russell Hansbrough should continue to get 20+ carries in the near future.
  • The team listed safety Ian Simon as the kickoff returner ahead of Murphy last week. We all know how that turned out. Murphy handled kickoff return duties anyway, returning one 100 yards for a touchdown. This week, Simon has shuffled off the two-deep at kickoff returner, Murphy again is listed as the starter and cornerback John Gibson now is the backup.
  • Sophomore Rickey Hatley has surpassed freshman Marcus Loud as Markus Golden’s backup. The big question going into the season wasn’t the play of the starting defensive ends, but whether the Tigers could find backups to replicate their 2013 production off the bench. After settling on a pair of freshman to handle that role entering the season, it appears the team already has decided to switch up its rotation.
  • Gibson, dealing with hamstring and knee injuries, didn’t start at cornerback Saturday, as Kenya Dennis started in his place and played most of the game. Dennis, listed as Aarion Penton’s backup on last week’s depth chart, has flopped with David Johnson and now is listed behind Gibson.
  • Harold Brantley still is listed as a co-starter at defensive tackle with Matt Hoch, who started Saturday after working through a pectoral injury during fall camp.
