THE GOOD

364.7: The number of passing yards the Ole Miss offense has averaged per game through three weeks in 2014. The Rebels rank ninth in the nation in passing offense and rank second in the SEC behind only Texas A&M. Ole Miss is eighth in the nation in yards through the air with 1,094 during its 3-0 start. Since throwing one touchdown and three interceptions in the first half of a Week 1 win over Boise State, quarterback Bo Wallace has thrown eight touchdowns to just one interception in his last 10 quarters.

9: Turnovers forced by the Ole Miss defense in 2014. The Rebels are fifth in the nation in turnovers forced and are tied for first in the SEC in that same category. Ole Miss ranks 17th in the nation in turnover margin at plus-4, and that ranking would be higher if not for Wallace’s interceptions against Boise (as a team Ole Miss has committed just two turnovers in its last two games).

4: The number of Ole Miss wideouts ranked in the top 20 in the conference in receiving. All four players (Cody Core, Vince Sanders, Laquon Treadwell and Evan Engram) have averaged more than 50 yards per game this season, and combined they’ve averaged 266 yards per game through the air. Only one other team has at least four players ranked in the top 20 in the conference in receiving (Texas A&M, the SEC’s top passing offense, has five players ranked in the top 20).

THE BAD

3.91: Ole Miss’ average yards per carry in 2014. The Rebels rank 11th in the SEC in rushing offense, and are one of just three teams in the conference averaging fewer than 4 yards per carry this season. Ole Miss’ leading rusher, Jaylen Walton, is only 25th in the conference in rushing and has averaged just 40 yards per game on the ground.

22: The number of tackles for loss the Rebels’ offense has allowed this season. Ole Miss ranks last in the SEC in this category and 115th in the nation after allowing more than 7 tackles for loss per game through three weeks. The Rebels rank near the top of the SEC in most offensive categories, especially those involving the passing game, but have fallen victim to a number of negative plays that could haunt them against tough SEC opponents.

9: The total number of kickoff return yards Ole Miss has amassed this season. No, not the Rebels’ average yards per return, but the total number of yards they have collected on four kickoff returns in three games. Most kickoffs in the FBS go for touchbacks, and four returns in three games is not a lot, but an average of just 2.25 yards per kickoff return is not doing the Ole Miss offense any favors in terms of field position.
