The Ole Miss athletics department is facing an NCAA investigation for alleged rules violations in multiple sports, including football, according to a report by Yahoo! Sports released Thursday morning.

Both the Rebels’ football and women’s basketball programs are under investigation, but the Yahoo! report explains most of the violations are related to women’s hoops. It was also reported the violations concerning the football program are believed to have taken place prior to current head coach Hugh Freeze’s arrival following the 2011 season.

It was not confirmed whether the violations were related to former Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt and his staff.

The NCAA has not sent a formal Notice of Allegations to the Ole Miss athletics department, nor has a formal hearing been set with the NCAA Committee of Infractions.

“We want it. We’re ready,” Bjork told the Clarion-Ledger regarding a Notice of Allegations.

The NCAA Department of Enforcement underwent an overhaul in staffing over the last year and a half, and as a result cases of this nature began to pile up in the enforcement offices. The Clarion-Ledger reports the Department of Enforcement staff is close to 100 percent again, thus allowing the office to begin to tackle the growing pile of allegations regarding member schools, including Ole Miss.

Until a formal Notice of Allegations is released, the details of the allegations will remain unknown.
