Thanks to a new rule that becomes official in 2016, each SEC program will be mandated to play at least one team from the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten or Pac-12 every season.

That’s great news, because despite existing since 1933, the SEC has played surprisingly few games against those conferences. (There are two notable exceptions: the annual ACC-SEC rivalries between Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech and South Carolina-Clemson, as well as the annual Big Ten-SEC slate of bowl games.)

The SEC and Pac-12 in particular rarely play outside of bowl season. The new rule may change that — Texas A&M and Arizona State open the 2015 season with a neutral-site game. The rule may also help ease bad blood between the Big 12 and SEC, or at least encourage the two sides to schedule more games.

Here’s a look at the SEC’s all-time record against every major conference, courtesy of mcubed.net. (Click on the links below for an entire game-by-game breakdown by conference.)

SEC vs. ACC: 290-144-10
SEC vs. Big 12: 83-67-6
SEC vs. Big Ten: 83-57-2
SEC vs. Pac-12: 68-40-5

And here’s the SEC’s record against other conferences:

SEC vs. AAC: 8-3
SEC vs. Big East: 25-29
SEC vs. C-USA: 121-23
SEC vs. Independents: 624-288-21
SEC vs. MAC: 83-13
SEC vs. MWC: 14-7
SEC vs. SWC: 197-141-17
SEC vs. Sun Belt: 117-7
SEC vs. WAC: 71-11

Yes, that’s correct — the now-defunct Big East is the only conference with an all-time winning record against the mighty SEC.

VS. ACC

  • Despite Auburn’s loss to Florida State in the 2013 season national championship, and the ACC’s 5-3 advantage in 2014, the SEC still holds a huge margin of victory in the 2010s thanks to a combined 11-4 record against the conference in ’10 and ’11.

VS. BIG 12

  • The SEC hasn’t posted a losing record against the Big 12 since ’02, when Alabama lost to Oklahoma and Ole Miss lost to Texas Tech. Although the average score is close in the 2010s (30.6-28.2), the SEC is 13-6 against the Big 12 so far this decade.

VS. BIG TEN

  • The SEC is on pace for its most lopsided decade ever against any one conference, beating the Big Ten by an average score of 31.6 to 22.9. That’s despite the fact that the Big Ten finished 3-3 against the SEC last season, including postseason wins by Ohio State and Wisconsin and Indiana’s big upset at Missouri.

VS. PAC-12

  • Since 2010, the SEC has played Pac-12 competition just seven times. Four of those seven games came against Oregon, with the Ducks splitting (Auburn and LSU won, while Tennessee lost twice).
