Editor’s note: SDS is ranking the 25 best SEC players — at any position — of the last decade. Florida playmaker Percy Harvin is next up in a 25-part daily series.

5.) FLORIDA ATH PERCY HARVIN (2006-08)

One of the most dynamic playmakers in college football history, Percy Harvin was an expertly-used instrument on Urban Meyer’s record-breaking offenses during his time at Florida, a stretch featuring two national championships for the All-American speedster.

Harvin’s blend of speed and athleticism led to 3,781 yards from scrimmage and 32 touchdowns during his career. He was so explosive, the running back-wideout hybrid averaged a first down (11.5 yards to be exact) every time he touched the football on offense. Harvin led the SEC in yards-per-carry each of his three seasons and was a threat to score no matter where the Gators were on the field.

The MVP of the SEC Championship Game as a true freshman in 2006, Harvin countered that performance with back-to-back All-SEC seasons before earning his status as a All-American during his final 2008 campaign. His 32 total touchdowns is the most ever by a Florida receiver and he is the only player in school history to rush for 100 yards and record 100 yards receiving in the same game, doing so in 2007 against Vanderbilt.

As an early NFL Draft entry, Harvin was selected 22nd overall in 2009 and earned rookie of the year honors with eight total touchdowns as a multi-position playmaker in Minnesota. Harvin holds the Vikings’ career record for kickoff return touchdowns (5) and won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2014, returning a kick for a score to open the second half against the Denver Broncos.

Due to his aggressive playing style and a few off-the-field issues, Harvin has missed several games during his career as a result of injuries and suspensions. He was traded to the New York Jets in October 2014 and is reportedly interested in testing the free agent market rather than take a pay cut next season. The Jets have three weeks to make a decision on giving Harvin $10 million this season or cutting him with no salary cap hit.
