This week’s nominee for “Announcer flub of the week” comes from legendary play-by-play man Verne Lundquist. Lundquist is an SEC mainstay as the lead man on the SEC on CBS broadcast and has worked in sports broadcasting since the 1960s.

However, as weather postponed the nationally televised matchup between Georgia and South Carolina, Uncle Verne found himself facing an unfamiliar foe, multitasking. What ensued is brought to you by the gift of live television:

Apparently, in a career spanning six decades, Lundquist faced “some kind of a new experience” with a PA guy talking in his headset during his hypothetical banter with his broadcast partner Gary Danielson.

After several awkward pauses, Uncle Verne waves the white flag and hands talking duties over to Danielson, who seems equally befuddled by the situation. He also made the excuse that the PA guy “told him to get out of the booth” as a reason for Danielson to take over.

Lundquist did compose himself after the weather delay passed and South Carolina defeated Georgia 38-35 in a thrilling matchup.

Meanwhile, during the weather delay, CBS Sports replayed the 2013 Iron Bowl, and folks around the country actually thought it was a real game in real time. This is very entertaining.
