Sid Ortis, a 16-year-old LSU fan, passed away after a long battle with cancer.

Ortis made national news in the past few months for his fight, and his friendship with LSU head coach Les Miles.

Miles initially called Ortis in March and prayed with him, telling him, “Life is not how long you live, but how well you live it.” He then invited him to be his box-seat guest for a home game in September.

The LSU coach called Ortis again when he came home from hospice, and said, “When you get to Heaven, save a spot for me.”

His friendship with Miles gained Ortis a lot of attention, and a lot of well wishes from Tigers fans.

Ortis was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, or bone cancer, in August 2014. Since his diagnosis, his hometown of Mountain Brook was been filled with purple and gold, in honor of Ortis’ favorite team. It’s also been filled with prayers and well wishes for him.

On Ortis’ 16th birthday, a star-studded video tribute was made for him. Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson called him this week to talk.
