1. Citrus Bowl (Orlando) — This month’s longest bowl trip is Mizzou’s trek to the tourism capital of the Southeast, an ideal landing spot for families wanting to catch the Eastern Division champs’ tussle with Minnesota. Hotel rates are spiked this time of year thanks to the draw of Disney World and Universal, but there’s affordable rates if you search. Most bowl destinations are only worth two days at the max, but there’s plenty to do after Christmas during a week in Orlando. The Citrus Bowl Stadium has been updated as well, a $70 million renovation featuring a new lower bowl, video board and luxury suites. Book those flights, Mizzou fans. You won’t regret it.

2. Outback Bowl (Tampa) — Central Florida’s beautiful this time of year, temperatures in the mid 60s with plentiful sunshine. New Year’s Eve at historic Ybor City is a fun time and if you’re into gambling, Seminole Hard Rock Casino is just off Interstate 4, 10 miles from Raymond James Stadium. For the roller coaster enthusiasts, Busch Gardens is an option.

3. Chick-fil-A Bowl (Atlanta) — There’s plenty of places to see in the capital of Peach State for Ole Miss fans, especially in the heart of downtown including the College Football Hall of Fame and the Georgia Aquarium, the world’s largest when it opened in 2005. The matchup with TCU inside the Georgia Dome kicks off just after noon on New Year’s Eve, so fan will have plenty of time to get situated at a local restaurant or special event to ring in the new year.

4. Sugar Bowl (New Orleans) — Louisiana’s largest city is known for its French Quarter, historic downtown featuring a labyrinth of bars, shops, restaurants and rich southern history including Jackson Square and Saint Louis Cathedral. The adults-only area of Bourbon Street works well for a victory cocktail following Alabama’s showdown with Ohio State. The kicker? Attending this game means you’ll be apart of history, one of two national semifinals on Jan. 1 in the College Football Playoff. Be sure and grab a beignet.

5. Music City Bowl (Nashville) — A southern staple of live music and nice people, spend a few hours in a Nashville honky tonk during bowl week and you’ll come away refreshed and full of life. If you’re in town a couple of days, take a tour of the Country Music Hall of Fame, historic Ryman Auditorium and Nashville’s top attraction, the Grand Ole Opry.
