We have watched all the spring games and are now less than 10 months until the next National Signing Day, but anyone who follows recruiting knows it is a year-round process. With that in mind, we graded all seven SEC West teams based on their work on the recruiting trail thus far.

Take a look at our early recruiting report card for the class of 2017:

ALABAMA

Grade — B: It would be an ‘A’ if the Tide would have retained four-star quarterback Jake Fromm, but otherwise Alabama is off to a great start on its path to yet another No. 1 rated recruiting class.

Verbals (8): RB Najee Harris (5 stars), OT Alex Leatherwood (4 stars), OLB VanDarius Cowan (4 stars), ATH Chadarius Townsend (4 stars), S Xavier McKinney (4 stars), RB Brian Robinson (4 stars), ILB Gary Johnson (4 stars, JUCO), DE Aaron Sterling (3 stars).

Needs addressed: LB, RB, DB

Needs to be addressed: QB, OL, DL

ARKANSAS

Grade — C+: The staff is already putting together the pieces for its next huge offensive line. Most of their top targets are still on the board and in play.

Verbals (7): QB Daulton Hyatt (3 stars), ATH Jarrod Barnes (3 stars), OT Shane Clenin (3 stars), OLB Derrick Munson (3 stars), OT Dwayne Fisher, WR Maleek Barkley (3 stars), OT Kirby Adcock (3 stars).

Needs addressed: OL, QB, WR

AUBURN

Grade — C: The Tigers have just three verbals — tied for the lowest amount in the division, but Calvin Ashley is a potential big-time left tackle that they will have to fight Florida and FSU for until the pen hits the paper.

Verbals (3): OT Calvin Ashley (5 stars), ATH Alaric Williams (4 stars), S Carlito Gonzalez (3 stars).

Needs addressed: OT

Needs to be addressed: QB, Interior OL, Interior DL, RB, DB, LB

LSU

Grade — C: LSU’s class will be incomplete without a quality quarterback prospect. No surprise that four of their five early verbals are in-state prospects.

Verbals (5): DT Tyler Shelvin (5 stars), OG Edward Ingram (4 stars), ATH Patrick Queen (4 stars), RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (3 stars), ATH Jontre Kirklin (3 stars).

Needs addressed: DB

Needs to be addressed: QB, QB, QB, OL, LB, DL

MISSISSIPPI STATE

OLE MISS

Grade — C-: Plenty of time for Ole Miss to turn this around, especially with the expectations for the upcoming season. We will check back with this staff after the summer camp season.

Needs addressed: OT, WR

Needs to be addressed: DL, Interior OL, DB, LB, RB

TEXAS A&M
