Not happy with a four-team Playoff?

More football is good, so we’ve decided to expand the season by several weeks with the introduction of the SDS 64, a ‘Winter Madness’ style tournament with an emphasis on conference championships, strength of schedule and any factors we see fit. Each region has its own theme, dominant teams and laughable neutral site hosts.

Just putting this out there: 12 SEC teams made the field.

THE SDS 64 SCHEDULE

  • MONDAY: Phyllis Region
  • TUESDAY: Family Time Region
  • TODAY: Chrome Dome Region
  • THURSDAY: Crab Legs Region
  • Dec. 15: Round of 64 results
  • Dec. 16: Round of 32 results
  • Dec. 17: Round of 16 results
  • Dec. 18: Round of 8 results
  • Dec. 19: Final Four, Champion

As you know, we love uniforms at SDS, especially the chrome helmet additions at Oregon and North Carolina this season. You can call this region whatever you like, but we’ve settled on ‘Chrome Dome’ since the Ducks are the host. Oregon’s plays its first-round game against N.C. State at Nike Headquarters while the other seven games will be played on a virtual TRON-style electronic grid. If you want eye candy, this region’s for you.

BREAKING DOWN THE CHROME DOME REGION

SEC teams: None. Darkhorses: No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Wisconsin; No. 14 North Carolina. Betting favorites: No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Baylor.

Intriguing matchups: 14th-seeded North Carolina has a clear shot to the Sweet 16 if the Tar Heels can overcome defensive woes and upset Kansas State + Nebraska. Larry Fedora’s offense has scored a ton of points this season — and has looked good doing so — but hasn’t been able to come up with enough stops on the other side of the football.

It appears Oregon has the easiest road to the final four despite the Ducks being the No. 2 seed overall in the SDS 64. They won’t face a ranked team until the Elite 8, potentially Arizona State or Melvin Gordon’s Wisconsin Badgers.
