Kicking off our late-season daily series looking at the recruiting circuit in the SEC, tight end’s a position of need at several programs in the West and there’s one team ahead of the curve in garnering talent at the spot.

Arkansas should be stacked at the position heading into next season with four of the SEC’s top 10 current tight end commits. Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema often stacks the line and uses multiple tight ends in all packages as receiving threats and power run edge-sealers.

Once enrolled, several of these players — equipped with the size and skill level — are capable of making the move to defensive end if Arkansas is too heavy at the position.

Using each player’s 247Sports Composite rating, here’s how the SEC’s top tight end commits stack up and where they stand nationally against other standouts at the same position:

SEC’s top TE commits (ranking nationally)

1. ALABAMA: Hale Hentges, 6-5, 230, Jefferson City, Mo., Four-Star (3): A two-way starter at Helias High, Hentges committed to assistant coach Bobby Williams and the Crimson Tide in May over Ohio State, Mizzou and several other SEC programs. Rated the second-best prospect overall in Missouri, Hentges is strong at the point of attack in blocking situations but still has to develop as a pass-catcher.

2. TEXAS A&M: Jordan Davis, 6-5, 255, Houston, Texas, Four-Star (5)

3. GEORGIA: Jackson Harris, 6-6, 250, Columbia, Tenn., Four-Star (6)

4. ARKANSAS: Jamario Bell, 6-6, 225, Junction City, Ark., Four-Star, (7): Cut from the same mold as several other spread-era tight ends with top-notch athleticism, Bell has a basketball player’s frame and quickness with an above-average leaping ability compared to others at the position. He chose Arkansas over Mississippi State and Louisville.

5. ARKANSAS: Will Gragg, 6-4, 245, Dumas, Ark., Four-Star (9): The Razorbacks made it a priority to keep this athletic tight end in-state, one of the shining stars at Nike’s ‘The Opening’ all-star event in Oregon earlier this year. Gragg’s brother, Chris, is a former Arkansas tight end. Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas and LSU also wanted Gragg’s services.

6. KENTUCKY: C.J. Conrad, 6-5, 225, Lagrange, Ohio, Four-Star (11)

7. ARKANSAS: C.J. O’Grady, 6-4, 230, Fayetteville, Ark., Three-Star (15)

8. AUBURN: Jalen Harris, 6-5, 244, Montgomery, Ala., Three-Star (18): Harris committed to Auburn in June and remains ‘100 percent’ committed to offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee and the Tigers, but that hasn’t stopped several others, including Alabama, from continuing pursuit.

9. ARKANSAS: Austin Cantrell, 6-5, 250, Roland, Okla., Three-Star (19)

10. TENNESSEE: Kyle Oliver, 6-5, 230, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Three-Star (21)
