ESPN FPI Rankings after Week 2: Texas falls from top spot despite win over Ohio State

The Texas Longhorns completed a wild comeback over the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night in Austin, overcoming a 20-point 4th quarter deficit to earn a thrilling 24-23 victory.
It was a statement win for Steve Sarkisian and company, but ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) wasn’t impressed, apparently.
After the Longhorns’ win, Texas was leapfrogged by… Ohio State. That’s right, the Buckeyes reclaimed the No. 1 FPI spot over Texas.
Here’s a look at how the entire top 25 shook out following Week 2 action:

- Notre Dame
- Georgia
- Miami
- Indiana
- Alabama
- Texas A&M
- LSU
- USC
- Tennessee
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Penn State
- Florida
- Texas Tech
- Ole Miss
- BYU
- Utah
- Nebraska
- South Carolina
- Michigan
- Auburn
- SMU
- Virginia
That’s 11 SEC teams in the top 25, which leads all conferences. The 5 SEC schools not in the top 25 are Mizzou (No. 26), Mississippi State (No. 27), Vanderbilt (No. 39), Kentucky (No. 51) and Arkansas (No. 77).
Oklahoma and Arkansas were the only SEC teams to lose to nonconference opponents through the first 2 weeks of the season. Kentucky also has a loss, but that was to Alabama.
