There are no days off for football staffs in the SEC.

Hours after shutting it down on the recruiting trail for 2015, several teams are already putting in extra time on their 2016 big board, including Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Kentucky who are all inside 247Sports’ early Top 10 with at least seven commitments each as of Monday.

The Rebels, currently second behind Miami for 2016, have already landed pledges from eight players, six of four-star caliber or higher. Wide receiver DeKaylin Metcalf (Oxford, Miss.) is the top-ranked player in Mississippi and the second-best player at his position nationally. The long-time Ole Miss fan committed to the Rebels in June 2013.

Mississippi State and new assistant Manny Diaz have made defense a priority with verbals from six players on that side of the football including four in the secondary.

Early returns have revealed Kentucky as the SEC’s biggest surprise in the early going, a team damaged during the most recent cycle with several late decommitments. The Wildcats are setting up in prime position for 2016 with two four-star offensive linemen headlining a seven-player commitment list.

A few of the league’s recruiting elites are picking up momentum as well. The top player in the 2016 class, offensive tackle Gregory Little (Allen, Texas), has verbaled to Texas A&M and should help Kevin Sumlin’s staff go after other high-profile in-state players against the likes of Texas, TCU and Baylor.

The SEC’s top recruiter, Alabama’s Mario Cristobal, has an eye on several of the nation’s top five-star prospects including the highest-rated defense tackle Rashan Gary. Cristobal’s the pointman for the Scotch Plains, N.J. native thanks to his ties to the area during previous coaching experience at Rutgers.
