HOOVER, Ala. — Kentucky coach Mark Stoops says Florida State’s football program is pro-active in its approach to handling domestic violence issues and believes Jimbo Fisher will handle the latest accusations against the Seminoles appropriately.

Stoops spent three seasons on Fisher’s staff as Florida State’s defensive coordinator and says there are programs in place to educate players on domestic violence.

“There’s zero tolerance with domestic violence and hitting women in general,” Stoops said at SEC Media Days. “I know the programs that coach Jimbo Fisher has in place to help his student athletes. That’s one thing I learned from Jimbo when I took the job from Florida State to Kentucky, how much he does to push for his players. He puts people there to help his players and to educate his players. I know how disciplined he is.

“It’s very unfortunate he’s dealing with some situations there as a program. I’m not up here with a need to defend Jimbo Fisher, but I’m just simply saying from my point of view, I took quite a few things from Florida State that he had in place to help our athletes be better people.”

Over the last month, Florida State dismissed quarterback De’Andre Johnson for striking a woman in a bar after video surfaced and has indefinitely suspended running back Dalvin Cook following allegations that he struck a women in the face several times in June.
