Week 8 questionable calls: one phantom flag and one no-call

While there are always calls that frustrate fans each Saturday, this week’s games largely were devoid of widespread controversy. Two calls stood out from the Week 8 slate.

OFFICIALS SYMPATHETIC TO FLORIDA

Missouri faced a first-and-goal at the Florida 1 in the first half with a chance to take a 21-0 lead. As it turns out, the Gators never got close to the Tigers, but at the time it felt like a pivotal possession with Maty Mauk and the offense playing poorly.

WR Bud Sasser, working against Florida CB Vernon Hargreaves III, made contact with his fingertips against the defender’s jersey at best.

The officials flagged Sasser for a phantom illegal block. Watch for yourself.

LOTS OF ACTIVITY, NO FLAGS

WR Dorian Baker delivered a crushing block to LB Kendell Beckwith as the latter tracked down a ballcarrier.

The hit could’ve been considered launching into a defenseless player, and both Baker and LSU jawed after the play, which also could’ve warranted a personal foul call.

The officials did not throw a flag on the play.
