South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier didn’t use his favorite ‘clobbered’ word choice after Saturday’s 35-17 loss at Clemson, but he didn’t have to after the Tigers dominated from start to finish to end their five-year losing skid in the rivalry series.

Here’s what the Head Ball Coach had to say after the Gamecocks dropped to 6-6 for the second time in his 10-year tenure:

Opening statement: “Clemson was better than us today. Played better and coached better … and we got beat. Their defense stymied us pretty well most of the day. give those guys credit, they’re better than us. Their team’s a good team that looks like it could beat just about anybody.”

On Clemson’s flip pass: “We gave up two long receptions. We’ve given up some long ones before … we didn’t stop that.”

On goal line struggles in third quarter: “We had a good play on first down, got it batted down. We must’ve tried five third downs to Shaq Roland and haven’t hit one yet. Haven’t come close to hitting one.”

On Tigers’ defensive line: “They handled us pretty well. We ran for minus 5 yards three first downs and that was discouraging. When we watch the tape, we probably did not block very well. but we had some chances to be in the game. We had pressure on Dylan the whole game, simple as that.”

Opinion of this season: “I told the guys that 6-6 might be what we are. We could’ve won some and we could’ve lost some we won. Maybe we just say this is where we are and go try and win a bowl game.”
