INCINERATOR HOT: DESHAZOR EVERETT

When’s the last time you heard about a cornerback with 16 tackles? And hardly any of them on passing plays? Everett played a tremendous game against Arkansas, sometimes using his speed, sometimes using his veteran savvy to be in the right place and sometimes playing pure, physical football. I don’t know that Texas A&M wins Saturday’s game without Everett’s performance.

LIKE A BLOWTORCH: SHAAN WASHINGTON

It’s only a few seconds at a time, but Washington rolled into the game and heated up the Razorbacks offense several times Saturday, including a sack and a tackle for loss. His presence after missing the first few games due to injury made a clear impact, and Texas A&M should find a way to get him on the field more. This defense is going to give up yards, so it needs as many disruptive plays as possible, and Washington provides that.

BATHTUB WATER AFTER A HALF-HOUR: KENNY HILL

It’s hard to criticize a player responsible for more than 400 yards of total offense and four touchdowns, which Hill had Saturday. But it took until the fourth quarter for the team to go over the top of a Razorbacks defense daring Hill to throw deep. Texas A&M’s offense scored just 14 points well into the fourth quarter against a team not known for its stifling defense. As much credit as Hill has gotten when the offense has flourished, he deserves some of the blame for A&M’s passing game getting bogged down at times Saturday.

ICEBATH COLD: AGGIES FANS IN COLLEGE STATION

We’ll get pretty deep into October before A&M even has a third game at the renovated Kyle Field. And the two thus far have featured Lamar and a divot-pocked field that had to be replaced midseason. If I’m an Aggies fan in College Station, with the season the team is having and the excitement around the program, I’m a little perturbed that Dallas, Texas, fans have seen an SEC game and I haven’t even seen a power conference game.
